How TVE Bahia Achieved 10 Hours/Day of Uninterrupted Carnaval 2025 Coverage
Salvador’s Carnaval is one of the world’s largest street festivals, drawing millions of revelers and straining mobile networks to the brink. In 2025, IRDEB (Instituto de Radiodifusão Educativa da Bahia), comprising TVE Bahia and Rádio Educadora FM, set out to elevate their radio coverage: 10 hours of live, non‐stop, high-quality audio for six consecutive days from the Barra-Ondina, Campo Grande, and Pelourinho circuits.
To overcome connectivity bottlenecks and operational complexity, the station deployed Aires Studio, Playlist Software Solutions’ professional audio automation and broadcast platform. Below, we detail the architecture, challenges, and results of this pioneering project.
Project Context
Event: Carnaval de Salvador 2025
Total airtime: 60 h of live broadcast
External channels: 4 field reporters + 5 audio links (3 via dedicated fiber, 2 via LiveU on moving trios elétricos)
Network collaboration: Real-time content pooling with partner stations like Rádio Frei Caneca (PE)

Technical Challenges at Carnaval de Salvador
Challenge | Potential Impact | Adopted Strategy |
---|---|---|
Mobile network congestion (4G/5G) | Audio dropouts & delays | Private transmission tower + wired links where available |
Studio-to-transmitter latency | Loss of synchronization | Dante protocol + intelligent buffering in Aires Studio |
Multiple external sources | Routing complexity | Aires Studio’s multichannel interface & real-time mixing |
Scaling operations with limited staff | Operator bottlenecks | Automated scenes & playlists in Aires Studio |
“Without Aires Studio, this broadcast simply wouldn’t have been possible. The system made it all viable”.
Cleiton Souza Rodrigues, Engineering Coordinator, TVE Bahia

Network Architecture & Connectivity
Private transmission towers installed at each broadcast point → dedicated fiber links back to headquarters.
Dante backbone inside TVE Bahia, carrying all five audio feeds into Aires Studio.
4G redundancy in less congested areas for seamless failover.
Plug-and-play integration with the Aires Reporter mobile module for field reporters (Android & iOS).
Audio Management with Dante + Aires Studio
32 Dante channels configured in under 15 minutes.
Backup mixing console integrated with the main board—no manual reconfiguration required.
Per-channel monitoring of levels and latency directly in the Aires Studio UI.
Broadcast-grade audio quality: 48 kHz / 24-bit, with zero perceptible artifacts over 60 h.
“The seamless, dynamic integration between the field sites and studio made this operation feasible despite its complexity”.
Cleiton Souza Rodrigues

Live Operation Workflow
External feed ingestion → automatic routing to dedicated buses.
Automated tracks & stings for smooth live transitions.
Full-duplex talk-back via Aires Reporter for real-time coordination.
Instant switching between studio and LiveU links as trios elétricos moved.
Automatic fail-over: backup links engaged in under 2 seconds with no audible dropouts.
Results & Success Metrics
Metric | Achieved Result |
---|---|
Daily airtime | 10 h/day uninterrupted for 6 days |
Field cut-ins | Over 30 seamless live reports |
Link failures | 0 (automatic fail-over with no perceptible loss) |
Engineering satisfaction | 9.5 / 10 |
Beyond the numbers, TVE Bahia emphasized the unprecedented operational peace of mind compared to previous coverage.
